On the 18th of September I attended the inaugural Cardiff Business Awards as a finalist in the Entrepreneur of the Year category. Imagine my surprise and pleasure when I found out from the lovely Lynn (our most wonderful InspireMe Anchor, who takes care of all our operations and some!) that I had made it to the final 4.
Unbeknownst to me, while I’d been on maternity leave, Lynn and Amanda (our Tribe Champion & Office Dynamo) had not only nominated me in secret but also written the nomination. And so it was that my first outing back from my maternity leave was with the InspireMe girls at the beautiful Cardiff City Hall for the awards evening dinner and celebration. As we are closely linked with two of the main sponsors for the evening we provided a wonderful 30 strong Inspire choir to provide entertainment for the drinks reception and then to open the event on the stage with the lovely TV and radio presenter Jamie Owen, who I regularly spend time with as a news commentator on his Sunday radio Wales show. I was asked to support the on stage choir and loved singing with them……although it had been months since I'd sung in public it felt great to belt out a few tunes with the soprano section.
My biggest worry was what to wear for the evening, especially as I'm still carrying some baby weight and I'm still nursing so I needed to be big and fabulous, it was the first time I'd worn heels and the first time I'd been to the hairdressers in ages! (With emergency hair dressed by the wonderful Lee from Re-Rooted hair salon who happens to be in our SUPERCHOIR and was also singing that night- brilliant!) And …….I just about pulled it off! I was so honoured and proud to be the only female in the final 4! I'm often the only woman in my field and while it sometimes frustrates me (that's another conversation entirely) I'm very pleased to fly the flag of badass, creative, emerging women in the business world.
Thank you Lynn and Amanda for believing in me so much!
